MB25 Bluetooth Transceiver can be used to add to Bluetooth streaming to many vintage audio products including this McIntosh MA6100 Integrated Amplifier from the 1970s.
Designed as a compact, standalone unit with a relatively small footprint, the MB25 requires no third-party apps for operation, ensuring a hassle-free experience. Functioning as a transmitter/receiver, it boasts Class 1 Bluetooth technology, delivering unparalleled connectivity with audio equipment lacking Bluetooth compatibility. With a transmission range of up to 150 feet (45.7 meters)1 and enhanced by an external antenna, the MB25 guarantees optimal performance for both transmitting and receiving audio signals.

HELPFUL AUDIO SIGNAL INFORMATION
The successor to the popular MB20, the MB25 retains all the MB20 features while introducing enhancements for an elevated user experience. Notable among its upgrades is an illuminated front glass panel that provides insights into audio signal rates and connection types. The MB25 also offers the flexibility to select the desired input in transmit mode, giving you greater control over your audio experience. Finally, Power Control has been added so it can be easily turned on and off with the rest of your system.

When used in Transmit mode, the input name and any applicable signal rate will be displayed on the left side of the front panel, while the connection type will be shown on the right side.

ABUNDANT CONNECTIVITY
Remarkably versatile, the MB25 features an array of inputs and outputs to allow for diverse system configurations. Analog connectivity options include both balanced and unbalanced stereo inputs and outputs. For digitally connecting it to your system, such as for use with an outboard Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), it has both coaxial and optical inputs and outputs (Note: the MB25 cannot be used as a stand-alone Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC).2

BLUETOOTH 5.0 TECHNOLOGY
Leveraging Bluetooth 5.0 technology, the MB25 supports high-fidelity codecs such as Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and Qualcomm® aptX™ HD, ensuring uncompromised audio reproduction. Equipped with a high-performance 32-bit DAC for receiver mode and a premium Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for transmitter mode, the MB25 maintains uncompromising sound quality and signal integrity.

ULTIMATE CONVENIENCE: RECEIVE OR TRANSMIT
As a transceiver, the MB25 can function as either a Bluetooth Receiver or Transmitter (but not both at the same time). Simply set the switch on the back panel to the proper setting for the desired usage. In Receiver mode, you can stream audio from compatible Bluetooth devices to the MB25, and then use the variety of output connections to play the audio through your sound system. Alternatively, in Transmitter mode, you can stream the music from physical media sources, such as CDs or vinyl records, to Bluetooth-enabled headphones or speakers.
 

In Receiver mode there will be a blue LED above the Pair button, while it will be green in Transmitter mode.

For multi-system integration within the home, the MB25 offers a convenient solution to enable wireless audio distribution between systems with ease by simply connecting an MB25 to each system.1 If you already have an MB20, then it can be used in conjunction with an MB25 to achieve this multi-room, multi-system configuration.

Encased in a sleek, custom aluminum chassis with a black glass front panel with illuminated logo, the MB25 exudes sophistication. The headphone import is wide from 8 to 600 ohms and comes with a headphone impedance selector that allows for optimal driving.

DAC uses the PCM1792 from the TI Burr-Brown brand which is known for sound quality. The IV conversion circuit and headphone amplifier part adopts OPA2132.In addition, the output stage is used as direct output, and the power supply part is equipped with a large capacity electrolytic condenser.

First, it would have to exceed the performance of the DMS-700 which is no small feat. After considerable research and design, the DMS-800 Professional Version (PV) was born.

The DMS-800 Professional Version (PV) is a limited-edition marvel. Simply put, the DMS-800PV is our ultimate expression of our famous DMS platform. If the DMS-700 is analog-like, the DMS-800PV IS analog. Bigger, deeper, wider, and smoother in sound, the DMS-800PV is capable of revealing the actual instruments within the recordings and not just the sound of the instruments. This allows for a more dimensional insight into the music, illuminating a more true-to-life sound. Inside, the DMS-800PV is a dual mono design, doubling most everything inside the renown DMS-700. While the DMS-700 utilizes a single digital/analog stage board with a single current output switched resistor 4 channel AK4499EQ DAC (equivalent to 4 DACs), the DMS-800PV uses separate right and left channel digital/analog stage boards. Each stage board has their own 4 channel current output switched resistor AK4499EQ DAC for a total of 8 individual DAC channels for a true fully balanced dual differential circuit. In addition, the DMS-800PV includes a Crystek Oscillator Clock, two separate DSP driver stages, 14 groups of independent regulated power supplies and two independent groups of analog stage regulation power supplies as well as other enhancements. The DMS-800PV has a larger 5” high resolution display and a slightly taller stance than previous DMS models. Inside the DMS-800PV is a marvel of circuitry design regarding power regulation and both digital and analog circuitry.

ABOUT THE DMS-650 NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER
The DMS-650 is the latest product in our DMS platform. While it replaces the DMS-550, it surpasses the renown DMS-600 in performance. The DMS-650 packs a BIG punch! Much more so than just calling it a “replacement.” Built around the AK4497EQ VERITA DAC (same as our previous flagship DMS-600), the DMS-650 is a no-compromise killer. It delivers gorgeous clarity and richness with a sense of ease that Cary Audio is famous for. It combines wonderful amounts of detail and fantastic bass articulation yet retains a texture of naturalness that makes you forget you’re listing to a digital source, allowing you to fall back into your music. DMS customers are routinely taken aback at the foundation, dimensionality, openness, and transparent sound the DMS delivers. The DMS-650 is capable of native 32-bit / 768kHz PCM and DSD 512. It’s also Roon Ready and MQA Certified. Like other DMS products, the DMS-650 allows streaming from on-board TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, Spotify Connect, vTuner, or from files stored on a network computer or NAS Drive. If that wasn’t enough, it includes three (3) USB-A ports for listening from connected USB hard drives, flash drives, and even from a SD card. As an extra measure for convenience, the DMS-650 also includes aptX™ HD input and output (output for Bluetooth speakers or headphones) as well as Airplay.

The DMS-650 has a slight cosmetic redesign that features a black-out appearance (for black units), which includes a black display frame and black power button. For both black and silver units, the right-side groove now includes a “swoosh” design as well as a faceplate devoid of silkscreened logos for an ultra-clean sleek look.

Additional features include Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity, TruBit™ 7-step Selectable PCM upsampling to 768kHz, and selectable PCM to DSD conversion with selectable 3-step DSD upsampling. At the heart of the MDA200 is the McIntosh DA2 Digital Audio Module. The DA2 has 7 digital audio inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT (for use with our MCT series of SACD/CD Transports), and 1 audio-only HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC)1 connection. The DA2 is powered by a next generation, Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). This audiophile-grade DAC features improved dynamic range and improved total harmonic distortion. The DA2 supports high resolution digital audio playback, as the USB input supports native playback of up to DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz, while the coax and optical inputs can decode digital music up to 24-bit/192kHz.

The HDMI (ARC) input allows TVs with a compatible HDMI (ARC) output to be connected to your home stereo system to bring a new level of audio performance to your TV and movie watching that TV speakers or soundbars just can’t provide. Popular multi-channel audio formats from Dolby® and DTS® are supported and will be expertly converted to 2-channel audio for proper playback.

The DA2 has received Roon Tested designation from Roon Labs, which can be especially useful if you have an extensive library of digital music. As a Roon Tested partner, McIntosh has provided equipment to Roon for testing with a variety of different operating systems and computers, and shared information about its design and capabilities.

Additionally, since digital music formats and technologies change and improve over time, it is possible to replace the DA2 in the MDA200 with a newer Digital Audio Module should one be introduced in the future. This protects your investment in the MDA200 and provides peace of mind that it can be enjoyed as a valuable part of your home entertainment system for many years to come.

To connect the MDA200 to your sound system’s preamplifier or integrated amplifier, it has a pair of both balanced and unbalanced analog outputs. McIntosh offers both balanced cables and unbalanced cables to make these connections.

The MDA200 comes from the factory in fixed output mode, but it does offer the option of setting its output to variable mode. This provides the ability to directly connect the MDA200 to a power amplifier in an audio system that only has digital audio sources; no other preamplifier would be needed in this setup. Volume could then be changed via the front panel ADJUST knob or with the supplied remote control.

The MB20 Bluetooth Transceiver is an easy and simple solution to add Bluetooth streaming capabilities to virtually any McIntosh (or non-McIntosh) home audio system of any era. It can quickly turn a vintage McIntosh system that you’ve treasured for decades, or a family heirloom system that you’ve inherited, into a modern home music system capable of playing the digital music stored on your phone, in your cloud accounts, or from your preferred streaming services. It is a small (its footprint not much bigger than a smartphone), stand-alone, complete Bluetooth streaming solution that does not require any third-party apps to use.

As a transmitter/receiver, the MB20 has been designed to provide a superior Bluetooth connection to audio equipment that lacks Bluetooth connectivity. As such, it has been engineered as a Class 1 Bluetooth device. Class 1 devices can typically operate at a range of up to 150 feet (45.7 meters)1 in ideal conditions with limited obstructions. As a Receiver, the MB20 employs an extremely sensitive receiver for better reception, even from Class 2 devices, with the maximum range determined by the capabilities of both actively paired devices. An external antenna helps maximize its range for better performance. As a Transmitter, it has a range 10x greater than that of a typical Class 2 Bluetooth device.

inputs and outputs to connect it to your home audio system – most notably amongst them being balanced inputs and outputs, making it one of the only Bluetooth transmitter receivers to offer these superior audio connections that help deliver top-quality audio performance. For connecting it to your system via analog cables, it includes 1 stereo set of both balanced and unbalanced inputs, along with a stereo set of balanced and unbalanced outputs. For digitally connecting it to your system, such as for use with an outboard Digital-to-Analog Convertor (DAC), it has 1 each of both coaxial and optical inputs and outputs.2

The MB20 uses Bluetooth® 5.0 with support for both the high bitrate Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) standard as well as Qualcomm® aptX™ HD for hi res audio playback. It also features Qualcomm aptX Low Latency for improved audio transmission speed to deliver sound in sync with applicable visual media. When used as a Receiver, the MB20 uses a high-performance 32-bit DAC with 192kHz internal processing for optimum sound quality; when used in combination with a separate outboard DAC, the MB20’s digital output is fixed at 96kHz to be compatible with most third-party DACs in order to maximize performance and maintain audio signal integrity. When in Transmitter mode, it uses an equally capable high-performance Analog-to-Digital Convertor (ADC) with 110dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR).

It comes in a black, custom aluminum chassis with a black glass top panel, letting it fit right in with any McIntosh system. The DAC-200ts digital to analog converter is the pinnacle in digital AND analog circuit topology. Packed with features like TruBit™ upsampling, the DAC-200ts utilizes a 128 bit DSP engine that expands native bit depths to 32 bits and upsamples incoming rates to 1 of 7 selectable sample rates, up to 768 kHz! Whether a signal is upsampled or left native, the signal is clocked several times with our OSO™ reclocking, then sent to 4 independent DACs for 8 channels of processing. Why do we go to such lengths when our competitors use one or maybe two DACs? Because using multiple parallel DACs ensures that the process of converting a true balanced or single ended digital signal will retain all the musicality stored within while transitioning it to a pure analog signal that sounds like analog! Even more important than the digital topology is the analog circuit. Once we’ve ensured the best possible, most pure, conversion of the digital information to an analog signal it is introduced to our analog circuit. Drawing on our years of experience in designing some of the world’s best analog circuits, the analog section of the DAC-200ts is nothing short of amazing. Our Dual Independent Output (DiO™) analog topology utilizes a separate solid state output stage and a separate vacuum tube output stage. Not to be confused with a hybrid design where a circuit always has the same sound characteristic, the separate independent analog output stages allow you to tailor the sound of the DAC-200ts to your source material with the simple touch of one button. As we know, source material varies greatly in terms of its recording quality. Having the ability to enhance the sound characteristics of the DAC-200ts to match your source material means maximum flexibility for maximum sonic benefit. ABOUT THE DMS-700 NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER
When we set out to design the DMS-600, our goal was simple. To make the absolutely best sounding network audio streamer on the planet, far exceeding its price point and beyond, period. As evident by the following the DMS-600 garnered, it’s clear we achieved that goal in spades! In addition to sounding amazing, the DMS-600, like all DMS products, functioned robustly, was feature packed, stable, operated easily, and had the best display screen in the industry.

So, how does one top that? It was not easy, but the efforts have paid off. Prior to the DMS-700, all DMS products used a voltage output DAC chip(s). The new DMS-700 uses AKM’s latest flagship DAC, the AK4499EQ. The AK4499EQ uses a switched resistor architecture with current output. This alone required a complete rethink of the DMS digital circuitry. The switched resistor architecture can sound much more analog like while revealing copious amounts of detail yet retaining a very natural, smooth, and musical response. This type of DAC is more complex to integrate but the rewards can be significant with proper implementation. As such, we also incorporated a FPGA chip that works in conjunction with the switched resistor DAC resulting in an extremely coherent and smooth sound. Of course, the digital circuitry alone does not account for the overall sound. Cary Audio is renowned for designing spectacularly musical analog circuits. Rather than using a simple analog buffer stage post DAC chip, we designed a full no compromise in-house analog stage coupled to massive power supplies for both the digital and analog stages. Any DAC audio component is a sum of its parts. As important as the DAC chips themselves are, it’s the designed pre and post DAC chip that gives our Cary Audio DMS products their famous signature sound.   

Aside from sound, the DMS-700 is packed with new and improved features like native playback of  DSD512, PCM 32/768, MQA 16x full decoder, Roon Ready, TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify and Spotify Connect, vTuner,  (3)USB-A (1)SD Card inputs with built-in NAS Drive capability, (2)Coaxial (1)Optical outputs capable of DSD and PCM 384kHz output.
